A construct and conquer card game for 2-5 players ages 12 and up. Collect 3 cards of the same color and lay them down to build a village and score gold (points) for each one. If your opponents’ villages contain cards you want, you can challenge them to a one-on-one battle. Win, and you can steal a card and add it to your hand. The first player to make 100 gold pieces over multiple rounds is the winner!

"Villages is a great little game that every gamer, casual or hard core, should have in their game cabinet. The mechanics are simple, basically like rummy, but the special abilities on each card make those interactions more intricate so that a hard core gamer like myself can stay interested. If you're reading the reviews, then it's time to buy the game. This is a keeper."

"Bought it a couple of weeks ago and it is no surprise why this game is getting so many good reviews. It is simple, yet can be quite strategic. The art is wonderful! Who doesn't love pixel art honestly. I enjoy that it can be played with more than just four players and how the variant rules add to the battle aspect of the game. Overall a very thoughtful and well designed game."

FAQ

If I lose my last card during another player’s turn, does that count as emptying my hand?

No. You need to empty your own hand on your own turn in order to earn the 10 bonus gold and begin the final turn. If you start a turn with no cards in your hand, draw cards and continue playing as normal.

Who chooses which cards to trade when I use the Merchant?

Each player chooses their own card, without showing their hand to the opponent. The players can discuss the trade if they want, or they can simply offer a blind trade.

Can I add a unit I just kidnapped directly to my village?

Yes. Technically, kidnapped units go to the victor’s hand, but adding units to your existing villages is a free action, so you can basically move them directly from your opponent’s village to your own.

What happens to my village if it is left with less than 3 units after a battle?

Nothing. A village is still a village as long as it has at least 1 unit left. If this unit is a dual color card or Light card, the village is considered any/all applicable colors until more units are added.

What happens if the last unit in my village is kidnapped or destroyed?

That village no longer exists. Return any animals or buildings left over to your hand.

How is a final winner determined if there is a tie ?

Whichever player made the most gold during the final round wins. If there is still a tie, and if either of the tied players were the one to empty their hand first, that player wins. If there is STILL a tie, the player with the highest total power in all their villages wins.

Does the Archer’s ability kick in if she’s hired?

Yes. She doesn’t live in the village she’s defending, so her ability takes effect.

When exactly do I use the Sheep, and what exactly does it to?

You can choose to use the Sheep immediately after a unit you sent out from the Sheep’s village loses a battle. That unit gets to return home and can’t be destroyed or kidnapped as a result of the battle, but the other cards in the village are still up for grabs.

Do I need to defend my village when it’s attacked?

Yes. You must always send out a unit to defend your villages, either from your hand or from the village itself.

What happens to my animals/buildings if my Farmer/Builder is kidnapped?

Nothing. They can stay in their village and continue to be used. However, you can’t add additional animals or buildings until your village can support them again.

I’m confused about what happens to hired units after battle.

99% of the time, hired units (regardless of the battle’s outcome or which side they were on) go to the owner’s graveyard. The only exception to this is if you hire a unit to defend, it loses, and the opponent decides to kidnap that unit as their battle reward.

Can I get a negative score?

Yes. If you get more negative points than positive points in a round, your total score will go down.
